Join me and have a blast as we use fresh, simple ingredients to make (and of course, drink!) delicious cocktails at home. We will guide you and your guests through the history of bartending and cocktails, discussing key techniques for making killer cocktails at home. We’ll chat about ice, dilution, bitters, bar tool etiquette, etc. We will be making both the ‘classic sour’ style of a shaken cocktail and the classic ‘old fashioned’ style of a stirred cocktail.

What you need to bring to the experience?

  1. Citrus - lemons or limes (2 per person), one orange
  2. Simple syrup - equal parts sugar and water (other sweeteners such as maple syrup, agave nectar and honey are fine too! If you’re using honey, please dilute it 1 to 1 with warm water and stir to dissolve)
  3. Spirit of choice - gin and whiskey are personal faves (ideally an aged spirit is amongst your choices)
  4. Aromatic Bitters -If you’re out, you can make some! Mix pinches of cinnamon, allspice, anise, and/or clove with grated orange peel and diced prunes in 2oz vodka. Let steep as along as possible. Pass through a coffee filter and you’ve got ‘pantry bitters’!
  5. Plenty of ice
  6. Cocktail shaker - or mason jar, or protein shake bottle
  7. Strainer - or slotted spoon, or small sieve
  8. Mixing glass - or pint glass, or that mason jar
  9. Barspoon - or chopstick, or sturdy straw
  10. Jigger - or tablespoon and a 1/4 cup measure
  11. Glassware - any will do, but an old fashioned glass and coupe are best
  12. Small knife and cutting board

What to expect on the day of experience

First things first…a great cocktail can (and usually, should) be made with as few as three or four ingredients. The most common household items that will yield a wide array of choices are: citrus juice (from lemons or limes) and sugar (white, raw, maple syrup, agave nectar, honey etc). With even just one from each of these categories, you’ll be sitting pretty. We will dive into the finer details of ice, dilution, citrus, bitters, bar tool etiquette etc. We’ll shake cocktails, we’ll stir cocktails, we’ll laugh, we’ll drink, we’ll become friends. We'll socialize — regardless of distance.
