In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment and food insecurity soared. In 2021, 53 million people turned to food banks and community programs for help putting food on the table. Hunger can affect people from all walks of life. Millions of people in America are just one job loss, missed paycheck, or medical emergency away from hunger. At such times, people rely massively on food banks for security. Rainier Valley Food Bank is the busiest food bank, serving an estimated 25% of all individuals seeking food assistance in Seattle. Book this experience for your team to volunteer with RVFB and contribute to their cause! We donate 70% of the proceedings from this experience.
In 2022, the RVFB visited 29,667 individuals, 18,772 households received food assistance through their backpack program, 15,297 households received home delivery and 14,346 individuals received meals through their program. Your team will help RVFB in their vision by packing bags of groceries for their home delivery program with a team of staff and volunteers. You can pack up to 500 bags per day! Bags consist of protein, shelf stable foods, fresh vegetables and fruit, and bread. This program serves 500 households who are homebound and unable to come to the food bank. This role is highly physical work, not ideal for those with back injuries.
